A-21862 CC SERENADE LOM

(TEXAS BRIGHT LIGHT x MISS LIGHTCAP)

CC SERENADE LOM  (Texas Bright Light x Miss Lightcap), owned by Ruth and Joanna Wilburn and Sally Ross Davis, was bred  by Coleman Cowan and foaled in 1970.  She was given to Gail & Joe Morris as a 3 year old but was not shown because of a large scar at the base of her neck, although her full sister, CC Silver Mist was a terrific halter and performance pony for the Rambur Stud and both her sire and dam won many show ring honors.

After producing several foals (including Gayfields Blues Song, the first herd stallion at Rollingwoods) she was sold to an owner who abandoned her along with several other ponies.  "Sara" was purchased by Texas breeders at a sheriff's auction because she was easily identifiable by the scar on her neck.  In the meantime, we were looking for broodmares on a limited budget.  Her owners agreed to sell us the mare for their purchase price but told us we couldn't afford her if we had to pay what she cost them (medical bills for a broken leg on one of the owners!).  In return for regular meals and good care, Serenade faithfully produced foals for us every year until she was 24‑ all of them by our Sec. A stallion Severn Sirocco.

We leased Twyford Dollar Money in 94 and 95 to breed to her but she didn't conceive and was quite irritated to have to live with someone other that her favorite man Sirocco.  She has never left the farm except to go to one show at the age of 22 where she won the broodmare class.  Now at the age of 29 Serenade is still going strong.  Most of her foals were sold to owners who either used them for breeding stock or didn't show at WPCSA shows so it has taken some time to get three offspring to qualify her.   Rollingwoods Rockette, owned by the Patton family, garnered  363  points in the halter and pleasure ring early in her life.  Rollingwoods Rockateer, sold to Tracy and Larry Henderson, has had a very successful show career and is quite close to earning his own individual Legion of Merit (1119 points). Rollingwoods Classic Rock was retained because she was the last offspring of Serenade and Sirocco.  While Classic Rock was earning points in the halter and driving ring, we decided to enter her in the leading rein class to see if we could qualify her faster.  Much to our delight, Classic Rock has ended the year being the WPCSA National Champion in the Leading Rein class.
