  2003 Sire Legion of Merit

B-31419 Carolinas Red Fox LOM

(CAROLINAS PURPLE EMPEROR x DOWNLAND DRESDEN)

CAROLINAS RED FOX LOM came into my life as a weanling in the fall of 1985. I had been in England and Wales that summer looking for a stallion prospect, and though there were many handsome boys, there was not one who stole my heart. After returning home, Len Bigley of the Llanarth stud, had Carolyn Bachman send me photos of a colt by Carolinas Purple Emperor out of Downland Dresden. Len thought that he thought was quite special and I heartily concurred. Happily, Carolyn agreed to sell him. He remained in England and was shown his yearling year by Len Bigley with many wins at prestigious shows.

Red Fox is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside.  Always a joy to work with, he is the consummate gentleman at a show or in the breeding shed.  One could never ask for a more mannerly pony. Although not campaigned heavily, he was Eastern Welsh Circuit and WPCSA National Champion B stallion in 1993. His offspring have been extremely successful in the show ring and are sought after in both the Welsh and hunter worlds.

The five purebred legs contributing to his sire Legion of Merit award include Land’s End Concerto, an Individual LOM winner, Land’s End Hermia, Land’s End Honeysuckle, Penrhyn China Belle and Land’s End Hummingbird. Another well known offspring, although not contributing to his LOM, is Land’s End Wind Chime, an Individual Award of Honor winner and the first Half Welsh to receive an Award of Distinction.

A few of his offspring who have excelled on the ‘A’ Show Circuit include All About Me, the leading USA Eq Medium Pony Hunter for 2003, Tippy Hedron who continues to win and was the leading USA Eq Small. Medium Green Pony Hunter in her green year, and Buffalo Soldier who has many year end awards and was the Reserve Small Pony Hunter at the 2003 Pony Finals.

There have also been many big wins at the Devon Horse Show. Two offspring, Land’s End Degas and Triple Hill, were Grand Champion of the Pony Hunter Breeding Division. Many others have been champion of their divisions and numerous others have won top ribbons.

For 2002 he was the USA Eq Leading Pony Hunter Sire and has consistently been in the top of those rankings.  May he continue breeding beautiful offspring who shine with his most desirable characteristics.
