CLARWOODS NICKELODEON LOM (Springbourne Carousel x Clarwood McHalea), Section A mare, was foaled in March 1993 at Clarwood.  Ann Smullen bought her in 1996 when she had only been shown in breeding classes.  Ann and her granddaughter, Monica Smullen, age 5, started to break in their sweetheart "Nikki".   It was hard work since Monica was learning to ride and teaching Nikki, too.  Nikki loved to snuggle with Monica and often tried to climb onto the four-wheeler with Ann.

Nikki started to show in 1999 in performance and, later, at the suggestion of the Clardy’s she was shown in breeding and began working toward her Legion of Merit.  In 2000, Lynne Hart showed Nikki in breeding and Monica rode her.  They won Regional champions and reserves and more National awards.

We had a tragedy in 2001 when our beloved Ann passed away.  Nikki was shown with the help of the Clardys as that would have pleased Ann immensely.  She won awards for both the Southeast and Northeast Regions. Nationally, she was champion in the 12.2 and under divisions of both English pleasure and hunter and won the Tylwyth Western Glow award.

At the end of 2001 she was well over 1500 points, but lacked 7 breeding points.  Nikki received the needed points at Maryland Pony Breeders, her only 2002 show, allowing her to receive the Legion of Merit that Ann worked so hard to achieve.  We miss Ann greatly, but I know she is smiling as Nikki receives this award and as Monica and Nikki ride on the farm.
