COFFING OAKS CHARISMA

2002 Individual Legion of Merit

COFFING OAKS CHARISMA (Tri-Ef Cognac x Coffing Oaks Crystal) is a Section A mare foaled in 1990. “Carrie” as she is known, was bred by Jay and Judy Hubert of Coffing Oaks Welsh Ponies in Galt, CA. Carrie is owned by Maureen and Brandon Ferrell of Vacaville, CA.

I first say Carrie at Jay and Judy’s when she was a weanling. She was a very small chestnut roan filly with the biggest eyes and tiniest ears. I told Jay how much I liked her. Three years later I suddenly needed the services of a leadline/walk-trot pony. Jay Hubert, knowing of my predicament, called and said something to the effect of  “you remember that little roan filly you liked so much? I have her back, do you want her?” I said of course. She had been returned from buyers in Gilroy who said they couldn’t get the pony to do anything. Carrie is apparently allergic to garlic and Gilroy, CA is the garlic capitol of the world!

Carrie was very easy to train and after a couple weeks of work, I took her to her first show under saddle. I rode her in Adult English Pleasure. Justin rode her in Walk-Trot. Brandon rode Carrie in Leadline and the three year old pony and the three year old little boy have been a great pair ever since.

Carrie has been ridden by myself in both the English Pleasure and Western Pleasure divisions off and on over the years and has won Division Championships in both. Justin rode her in Walk-Trot for a few years, but Brandon has ridden her to most of her performance points. She has turned out to be the absolute greatest child’s pony and won the National High Point Child’s First Pony in 1998. She was also Res. High Point in Leading Rein twice. Carrie has been borrowed for Leadline, Leading Rein, Walk, Walk-Trot and Child’s First pony classes numerous times and has been a doll for all of her one time riders.

Brandon began riding Carrie in the Short Stirrup Division and this was a perfect division for Carrie to shine. Being only 11.2 hands, the eighteen-inch jumps are just right for her. Brandon also began riding Carrie in the English Pleasure Division, winning numerous Championships and National Res. High Point English Pleasure, 12.2 hands and under in 2001. Showmanship is something Brandon grew to like, as Carrie would plant her feet and essentially go to sleep.

Carrie was shown in halter by myself. She has won numerous Section A mares classes, as well as Ch. and Res. Ch. Section A mare classes and a few Ch. and Res. Ch. Section A classes. At her last large show, she placed first under judge Hatfield who also placed her as the Res. Ch. Section A mare of the Tulsa State Fair.

Carrie is taking a break from the show ring for now as she is in foal to the Maurer’s stallion, Ceulan Lwcus, for a long awaited March 2003 foal. Maybe her next accomplishment will be to receive her Dam Legion Of Merit. She will eventually be back in Leadline classes carrying my new nephew and anyone else that needs a safe mount.

Thank you Jay and Judy for allowing me to own such a wonderful pony.
