2004 Sire Legion of Merit

B-11466 CUSOP SHERIFF LOM

(Cusop Call Boy x Coed Coch Brenhines Sheba)

Linda Butler shared her memories of the next Sire Legion of Merit winner.  She wrote….CUSOP SHERIFF LOM (Cusop Call Boy x Coed Coch Brenhines Sheba) was a great guy.  I miss him and feel fortunate to still ride a daughter, GlanNant First Star and granddaughter, GlanNant Rhyming Line.

Sheriff was such a character and passed his heart and spirit on to his progeny.  Sheriff had an opinion about everything.  When I was riding him at the Devon Horse Show he would look at the mares and raise an eyebrow if he approved, mutter under his breath if he thought she was especially appealing and always keep an eye on the action.

I never remember him refusing a jump.  When I was in graduate school, I took him to a cross-country event near Ithaca, New York.  He flew over 3-foot stonewalls, ditches and brush jumps.  When he finished the course and knew the work was done, he would often trumpet loudly on his way back to the truck as if to say, “that was a good warm up, what else have you got?  And girls, don’t forget me;  I’ll be back!”   Never a dull moment and so expressive.  I miss him.

GlanNant Rhyming Line out of GlanNant Idyll (Cusop Sheriff x Coed Coch Prydyddes) is my fabulous cross country ride and great fun in the New England surf.    The ponies are definitely not just for kids.   They keep adults like me young and smiling in the irons.
