2006 DAM LEGION OF MERIT
B-27221 DIXIE CANDY LOM
(Coed Coch Prydydd x Open Gates Daisy)

Gail Thomson writes... DIXIE CANDY LOM was born in 1979 at Heart O’Dixie Pony Farm in Dixie, Louisiana. Her breeder, Wayland Carlisle, bred ponies there from 1961 through 1994, registered 184 ponies, and was a WPCSA Director and Vice President.
Dixie Candy, Section B, was by Coed Coch Prydydd and out of Open Gates Daisy. She was very heavily Glyndwr-bred in that her sire was a son of Coed Coch Glyndwr and out of a Glyndwr daughter while her dam was out of Texas Daisy who was by Glyndwr and out of Daffodil, also by Glyndwr. At 13 hands, she was seal brown. Candy was bought by Dwight Robinson of Illinois. Picking her up from Heart O’Dixie he dropped her off for stud service at Gayfields and that is where she stayed when the short-term visit became a long-term lease.
Dixie Candy foaled seven Gayfields foals. They garnered 2067 points to qualify for her Dam Legion of Merit. Her three legs are: Gayfields Nothin’ But Truffles (by *Sleight of Hand LOM) who was bought and gelded by Meryl and Cindy Hossfeld and eventually, helped along by the Petersen family of Misty Morn, won 892 points at Welsh shows before moving on to the Hunter world; Gayfields Mastermind (by *Pendock Masterpiece LOM) is herd sire at Lane’s Pony Farm in Oregon and has produced 50 foals and contributed 485 points; and Gayfields Napoleon (by Gayfields Big Easy) had a good year as a Green and Small Pony Hunter before returning to the Welsh ring to carry Suzanne McGehee, one of the Gayfields granddaughters. "Polo" earned the final 300 points needed in halter and English pleasure. Candy had the Prydydd disposition. She was one of those unshown jewels that contributed to the breed through her offspring. Altogether she had twelve foals before retiring from the mommy-track.
