gayfields bonnie bach
2003 Individual Award of Excellence
Gayfields Bonnie Bach is by Order of the Dragon sire *Sleight of Hand and out of
Legion of Merit dam Prydydd Bonnie Jean. Bred by Gail and Joe Morris of
Gayfields Welsh Ponies, she is owned by Miriam Williams Gerdes of Madoc Farm.
In 1983, Gail and Joe loaned Bonnie Bach’s dam Prydydd Bonnie Jean to Miriam for the fall show season. Miriam quickly came to adore Bonnie and knew she had to have a filly of hers to keep. As each year came, no foal was “the right one.” In 1988 Bonnie was getting into ill health and everyone knew her next foal might be her last; Miriam visited Gayfields and asked Bonnie to have a filly “just like her.” The next spring Bonnie had a gorgeous bay roan filly with 4 whites, “just like her mother,” who was obviously the filly Miriam had ordered. She was named Bonnie Bach, which means sweet Bonnie, after her mother.
She is definitely the ultimate all around, versatile pony who is loved by many. Bonnie Bach tells everyone she is the “Pony Princess” and must be treated as such; strangely enough, it works! Months in advance the “Madoc kids” are known to beg and plead to get the opportunity to show her. She has competed at “A” hunter shows and last year qualified and competed at the 2003 Pony Finals. Bonnie Bach has also shown in Leadline, Walk-Trot, Short Stirrup, English, Western, Hunter and Trail. If she is ever able to stop yawning long enough during Halter classes, she’ll complete the points needed for her individual Legion of Merit.
