GAYFIELDS COURT SCANDAL
2001 Individual Legion of Merit
GAYFIELDS COURT SCANDAL (*Sleight of Hand LOM x Dixie Blue Duchess LOM) was foaled in 1986, sold to Texas and put on the back burner, so to speak. He was offered for sale at the Fall Gulf Coast show in 1995. Knowing he was special, Larry and Tracy Henderson purchased him. At that time Scandal had about 200 of the 1500 points he needed for his Legion of Merit.
In 1996 Scandal was shown at 8 shows where he won Section B Championships, Supreme and Double Supreme Championships, along with Driving, and Hunt Seat Equitation Championships. Scandal, the wonder that he was, won over 700 points in that year alone. He also won National titles.
Scandal has sired several halter and performance champions in the past six years. Lightly shown for a few years as the Henderson's were showing his foals, Scandal returned to the show ring in 2001 to get the 93 points he needed for his Individual Legion of Merit. At the Red River Welsh Pony and Cob show Court Scandal, at age 15, won Reserve Supreme Champion and went on to be Western Pleasure Champion, Reserve English Pleasure Champion and even won the Trail class! His Legion of Merit was assured!
Scandal was what a Section B Welsh pony should be: kind, willing, possessing wonderful welsh movement and class, he had a style all his own. We are thankful to his breeder Gail Thomson for breeding the cross of *Sleight and Duchess for Scandal was the first of a long line of champions.
After completing his qualifications for the LOM, Scandal was retired from the show ring and, according to Tracy, " promised ‘no more stalls’, just enjoyable drives with Larry and a few parades pulling the Dr.'s buggy.
Sadly, Gayfields Court Scandal's retirement was cut short as we lost this beautiful gentleman of the Welsh world in January of this year. We look forward to watching his children make their own contributions to the breed in the years ahead and are confident that one day they will honor their sire with a Sire Legion of Merit and honors of their own."
