2000 Individual Legion of Merit
GAYFIELDS DIRTY DANCING, aka SPANKY, was bred with special guidance from Gail Thomson and is owned by Ron and Sue Schwartz. His sire, Sleight of Hand, has won many honors and his dam, Liseter Dancing Girl, was a Champion driving pony in her day. Foaled in 1995, Dirty Dancing has won his Legion of Merit at the age of five to be the youngest pony ever to win this honor. He currently has 2057 points.
As a three year old, Spanky was ridden by Lauren Schuster, age ten, at a limited number of shows and began his winning show career. In 1999, when he was four, Ron Schwartz began showing him in pleasure driving and carriage classes and his halter career started toward its current total of seventeen Supreme Gelding Championships. By the end of his first full year of showing, 1999, he had qualified for Champion of Champions at the Toronto Royal Winter Fair and was WPCSA High Score Sec. B Gelding, 3 and over, WPCSA High Score Medium/Large Pleasure Driving and WPCSA High Score Carriage Driving, In addition Gordon Sears showed him to the Gelding Championship at the Royal Winter Fair. He was awarded the Severn Sirocco Perpetual Pleasure Driving Trophy and the Spring Valley Runner National High Score Gelding Award.
In 2000 Ron and Spanky had another great year, winning all three of the National High Score awards for which he competed again: Sr. Sec. B Gelding, Pleasure Driving 12.2 and over and Carriage Driving. What an honor to receive the Severn Sirocco Trophy and the Spring Valley Runner Award for the second consecutive year.
During his three years of showing, Spanky accumulated 884 halter points and 1173 performance points, earning his Legion of Merit. Ron and Sue are proud to own and show such a quality pony of Gayfields breeding and are looking forward to his new adventures in the future.
