2004 Dam Award of Excellence

GAYFIELDS MONA l  When Mona (foaled in 1984 by *Pendock Masterpiece LOM out of Gayfields Silverado) had her first foals we had no idea how much her influence would impact our herd. Borrowing from the breeding knowledge of Gail Thomson we acquired this mare and have been continually amazed at Mona’s ability to produce champions.  All of her foals have been by *Sleight Of Hand except for one, Rollingwoods Easy As L, who was by Gayfields Big Easy, a son of Sleight. 

            Her 1989 foal, Rollingwoods Picturesque, was our first homebred filly to earn Supreme Champion and WPCSA National Champion in English and Hunter divisions as well as an Individual Legion of Merit.  We sent her to the open hunter world and she was the 1994 USEF Small/Medium Green Pony Hunter Champion.  Another of Mona’s foals, Rollingwoods Sophistication that was sold early, went on to win the overall Green Pony Hunter at the 1997 Pony Hunter Finals. 

            Then came the “L” children, the first being Rollingwoods L On Wheels.  He excelled in the halter ring, and the English pleasure and hunter divisions.  He then made his mark in the hunter world where he was the 1999 USEF Small/Medium Green Pony Hunter Champion.  He continues to win regularly in the Medium pony division.  Mona has points from all of her children that have been shown in the Welsh world including Rollingwoods Notorious, Rollingwoods Spellbound, Rollingwoods What the L, Rollingwoods Elle’s Bells, and Rollingwoods L If I Know.  In 2004 Mona’s children won the following WPCSA championships: Rollingwoods Heaven and L was the National Champion in Adult Hunter, Rollingwoods Raising L was National Champion in Adult English pleasure as well as Reserve in the Adult Hunter, and our herd stallion, Rollingwoods Easy As L was Champion in the Adult Western and earned an Individual Legion Of Merit. 

                Mona’s get are easy to recognize as they all have the same refined head, big eye, and beautiful movement with incredible balance and lead changes the first time that you ride them.
