GAYFIELDS OLD GLORY
1999 Dam Legion of Merit
Just about everyone who visits Gayfields chooses GAYFIELDS OLD GLORY as their favorite of the mares. A lovely bay Sec. B mare, 13 hands, she has the big kind eye of her dam, Legion of Merit winner Prydydd Bonnie Jean. Her sire, *Brockwell Spider, stood at Gayfields for several years and left three of his daughters to breed on there. Old Glory did her share of winning as a Jr. filly and later as a mare, although lightly shown since she became a broodmare. She took a year or two off to be broken to ride at eleven and was shown under saddle by Sally Ross Davis and Clay Clayton.
Old Glory (who is named for her maternal grand-dam *Criban Old Silver) has produced nine foals, beginning with Individual Legion of Merit winner Gayfields Glory Hallelujah who contributed 2818 points toward her Dam Legion of Merit. Glory Hallelujah has won eight WPCSA High Score Championships and Supreme Championships in breeding, Pleasure Driving Championships and Draft Championships. He is also a gentle family pony at Misty Morn Pony Farm in Ohio.
Gayfields Way Too Cool, Old Glory's only bay offspring by *Sleight of Hand, contributed 491 points although only shown as a yearling and as a two-year-old. He was High Score Champion Jr. Sec. B Colt both years, winning Supreme Championships under both Jean Shemilt and Gary Baker at a gold-rated show as a yearling, among other honors. Way Too Cool is owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Jones in Ohio and was shown by Ron Schwartz. Last of the three necessary "legs" on Glory's Legion of Merit was secured by her 1998 daughter, Gayfields Pistol Packin' Mama, perhaps one of Arthur and Gail Thomson's favorite *Sleight daughters. Although they still hope for a bay, Pistol believes she is Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof and can be any color she chooses. Her show career started at the Central National/Tulsa Show as a weanling where she began a winning streak that includes twenty-one first places out of a possible 22 in her short lifetime. She has won 18 Jr. Championships and two Reserves and although the Royal Winter Fair doesn't give a B Jr. Championship she won her class there both years. With only two show seasons under her (gun) belt, Pistol has 607 points.
Other offspring include*Sleight of Hand sons and daughters Gayfields Toy Soldier, Gayfields Steamy Windows and Gayfields That Certain Glo. Gayfields Zip! Zoom! Zowie! by Gayfields Big Easy is now a driving pony. *Pendock Masterpiece sired Gayfields Velvet Elvis, now a hunter pony and Gayfields Fame and Glory whose 1999 son, Gayfields John T. Chance, a black, is being watched as a possible Jr. Herdsire at Gayfields. There will always be a trace of Old Glory at Gayfields.
