Glynhafan Rob Roy
2001 Individual Legion of Merit

Glynhafan Rob Roy (Glynhafan Red Hawk x Tangwyllt Lady Persuasion) is a Section B Gelding foaled in 1995, owned by Robert & Mary Gordon, Street, Maryland, and shown by Victoria B. Gordon. He is the perfect example of the old adage: "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." It all innocently began with a phone call from my sister in mid July 1997 from outside of Albany NY. What follows is almost verbatim, "Meet us at the barn at 5 p.m., we have a pony for Tori on the trailer." Louise Gill and Margaret & John Almond had gone to Glenda Armstrong's to pick up a pony they had purchased while at a show in Syracuse. Having a new three-horse trailer, they didn't want to come home "empty" so they asked Glenda what else she had for sale. The three of them picked out two additional ponies and started back to Maryland.
When we all met that evening, this beautiful, braided, two year old chestnut gelding was handed to our ten-year-old daughter Victoria - it seems he was to have gone to his first show that day, but fortunately for us, he came south instead. Glenda & the girls in her barn have STILL NOT forgiven us for whisking him away.
Shown once in hand as a two year old and once in the Walk Trot division, we knew we had been given the gift of a wonderful pony for Tori to grow with. As a three year old in 1998, "Robby" placed Third nationally in the Section B Geldings. "Robbie" & Tori won all three WPCSA Walk Trot Champions entered during the first half of the show season, and placed respectably in the Junior English Pleasure division for the second half. Susie Weigand kindly rode him in nine Adult Pleasure classes - winning every one.
In 1999, Tori and "Robby" placed Third nationally in the Junior English Pleasure division - with Tori doing all the showing. Louise Gill managed to place with him in the Adult Pleasure classes at a couple of shows - finding out that he wasn't quite the push-button ride that she expected.
In 2000, Tori & "Robby" won five Gelding Supremes and three Res. Supremes - taking Reserve Champion National Honors. Our pair also earned 3 Champions & 2 Res. Champions along the way in the Junior English Pleasure division, and placed both times in the ribbons in the Hunter division when shown at only two shows.
2001 was an incredible year. Totally missing three of the big WPCSA Shows here on the East Coast, our pair still compiled an impressive record: WPCSA Spring Valley Runners Trophy High Score Gelding; WPCSA National Reserve Champion Section B Gelding; WPCSA National Reserve Champion Junior English Pleasure; WPCSA National Third Place Welsh.
We are very proud of the fact that Tori has earned all of their points over the last two years, with the exception of a CH won at MDSF when ridden Robby was ridden by Monica Smullen. Sadly outgrown too quickly, Glynhafan Rob Roy has moved to the West Coast where we hope he will continue his winning ways. All the best to his new owners, we hope that you enjoy and treasure every moment.
