1997 Individual Legion of Merit

HILLCREST’S MICHAELANGELO (Gayfields Vida Blue x Farnley Calla), owned by Pamela McGlynn, is the first gelding to win a Legion of Merit.  Pam tells us, "He was foaled in 1985 at Ed & Marilyn Checki's Hillcrest Acres in Franksville, WI.  I bought him as a coming three-year-old and he began his show career a year later.  Most of Michaelangelo's points were accumulated in Wisconsin at shows hosted by Welsh of Wisconsin and other Wisconsin organizations.  The past three summers have broadened Mikey's field of play with trips to Maryland, Ohio, Georgia and Michigan.  I showed him to all his 511 halter points as owner/trainer but numerous children and adults contributed to his 1887 performance total.  Junior rider Katy Faull has been Michaelangelo's constant companion for the past two years and has no plans to give him up now. Mikey is truly a North Central boy;  he is the first Legion of Merit recipient to have been bred, raised and trained in the north central region.  His other 1997 achievements include: repeat recipient of the Spring Valley's Runner Regional Gelding Award for "great guys", Res. National Champion Sec. B Gelding, Southeast Champion B Gelding, Northeast Champion B Gelding, North Central Champion B Gelding, North Central English Pleasure Champion, Res. Champion Western Pleasure A & B, and WOW Champion B Gelding.
