*KENTCHURCH CHIME
1997 Individual Legion of Merit
*KENTCHURCH CHIME (Parc Commando x Llanarth Rhuddel), owned and imported by Mary Alice Williams, is the first Cob to receive a Legion of Merit! His 1520 points are almost equally divided between breed and performance classes. He is only the second import so honored. Mary Alice tells us "During the first visit to the Kentchurch Stud in Britain in 1980 I saw a lovely palomino filly who was not for sale. A palomino colt with the same breeding was ordered and Kentchurch Chime arrived in 1983. This was Mrs. Vestey's first foal born with a foaling monitor on the mare thus the name Chime. Kind temperament and eagerness to please soon identified him as a performance prospect.
His career includes show ring wins in halter, pleasure, hunter and driving. Outside the Welsh world he has been successful in combined driving pairs, tandem driving, hunting and most recently in dressage. Nancy Hinz began working with Chime in 1991 and has taken the dressage world by storm. His unique looks and personality, not to speak of flying feathers, have been a tremendous advertisement for Welsh.
He and Nancy competed Intermediare in 1997 and are now working on moving up to Grand Prix (one of the highest levels) in the fall of 1998. His musical freestyle is spectacular and the Grand Prix freestyle should be breathtaking. Chime lives outside with his mares when he is home at Madoc and his foals inherit his athletic ability and work ethic. Thirty-four of his foals have recorded a total of 2313 points towards his Sire Legion of Merit!
