MARY'S LLANCES
1999 Dam Legion of Merit
MARY'S LLANCES is the first foal of *Llanarth Rhonwen (Llanarth Flying Comet x Llanarth Rhiangel) Rhonwen was imported by Mrs. W.A. Swinerton in the fall of 1982 as a weanling. Her sire, also imported by Mrs. Swinerton, is *Sinton Sultan (Derwen Supreme x Byefields Rachel). Llances was one of the first domestically bred Cobs in California. She was shown at three months old at the 1986 Western Nationals in California in a class for Cob mares any age and beat all the older mares. She returned to win the Championship followed by her mother Rhonwen as Reserve. Llances along with Mary's Bronwen were sold to Colette McKee in Southern California for the purpose of being a driving pair, unfortunately circumstances of the owner prevented that dream from being realized and the fillies were sold to Janina Owens in February of 1990. Janina bred Llances to *Leyeswick Brenin (Nebo Brenin X Leyeswick Pixie) the resulting filly, Jaycobs Tywysoges Cariad, was foaled in 1991. Cariad has been shown in WPCSA shows, as a hunter pony and used in Pony Club by Samar Afshar. Llances was again bred to *Leyeswick Brenin and produced in 1993 a filly, Jaycobs Tywysoges Meghan. Meghan was purchased by Karen Randall and Paige Hines. Paige has shown Meghan to many championships in hand, under saddle, and over fences as a junior rider. Llances was again bred to *Leyeswick Brenin and produced a colt, Jaycobs Prince of Wales. He was purchased by the Roundtree family. Jake has been shown to numerous WPCSA National titles. In 1998 Jake was WPCSA National Champion C/D English Pleasure both Junior and Adult. He was also WPCSA National Reserve Champion C/D Gelding in hand. In 1999 he again won WPCSA National Champion C/D English Pleasure both Junior and Adult. Jake has been Supreme Gelding many times over at large Gold-rated shows. Jake and his junior owner/rider Tayler Roundtree have also competed successfully in Pony Club Events, dressage and cross country.
In 1996 Llances was sold to junior rider Suzy Meathrell. Suzy showed Llances at WPCSA shows, Pony Club events, parades, and also used Llances foxhunting. Suzy once stated that Llances often lead the hunts, jumping over large fences that the thoroughbreds went around. Upon Suzy's graduation from high school and going on to other pursuits, Llances was purchased by the San Diego Family in 1998. She has been shown by junior rider Jessica San Diego in WPCSA shows. Llances also does double duty being a dependable family mount out on the trail and will continue what she does best, producing beautiful, athletic Cobs with kind temperaments that families can enjoy.
