2008 DAM AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Mary’s Melody lom/aoe is the dam of an amazing 17 foals that completed her dam Award of Excellence in 2008.  Melody started her life at Mary’s farm in California, and soon thereafter made her way to Arkansas as part of an entertaining trade, after catching the eye of Joe Morris.  Melody raised five foals while at Gayfields, most notably Gayfields Love Potion No. 9, who in turn is the dam of Gayfields Elixir LOM.  After a midnight romp through Olive Branch, Mississippi, Melody was required to find a new home, so she made her way back to her home state of California as a foundation mare for Goldhills Welsh. 

Melody has had twelve foals while at Goldhills. Three of these foals, all sired by Gayfields Call the Cops, earned the legs of Melody’s LOM and have continued to provide the majority of Melody’s points for her Award of Excellence.  Goldhills Mystique had a great show career as a youngster, took some time off to raise two foals, and made her way back into the show ring in 2008 to finish up her LOM.  Mystique has a total of 2319 points. Goldhills Most Wanted also showed very well in hand as a youngster, earned an impressive 9 Supreme Championships in 2007 alone and completed his LOM at age four.  Most Wanted has a total of 3,767 points. Goldhills Maverick was the National Champion B Colt as a two year old, and also completed his LOM in 2008 at age four.  Maverick has a total of 2,064 points.

Another historic feat, these three foals are only the second set of full siblings to each earn individual Legion of Merit awards.  All but three of Melody’s 17 foals have made their way into the Welsh show ring and have contributed to her point total.  In addition to Melody’s “big three” point earners, she is also represented by Gayfields Portrait (by Pendock Masterpiece LOM), Gayfields Love Potion No. 9 and Goldhills Illusion (both by *Sleight of Hand LOM/AOE/OD), Goldhills Mercury (by Talybont Quicksilver LOM), Goldhills Masquerade and Goldhills Marquee (both by Farmore Publicity LOM), Goldhills Calliope, Goldhills Mirage, Goldhills Movin’ Violation, Goldhills Musketeer and Goldhills MacGyver (all sired by Gayfields Call the Cops LOM/AOE/OD).  Melody, through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren has left quite a mark in the Welsh world and we are very pleased to see her earning this recognition.
