MEADOWLAWN SQUIRE
1999 Sire Legion of Merit
MEADOWLAWN SQUIRE (Dacotah Glomadh's Pledge x Grasanjo Big Snow), foaled 1969 is owned by Maureen and Valerie Lapicola, Asgard Farm. "NOW THAT'S A WELSH PONY" is a statement synonymous with Squire, and has been made countless times at shows or Exhibitions. Squire has that look about him, and movement that takes a person's breath away. When he moves the Earth seems to tremble, and he floats in the air until another hoof hits the ground and catapults him into the air once again as if his hooves had springs on them. His stride is extremely long, covering ground effortlessly and he really does show the bottoms of his hooves with every step. Squire is beautiful, masculine, and prepotent for the exceptional hindquarters and spectacular action. His personality is wonderful and kind.
"When we got Squire, who was basically untrained, it took only two weeks of harness training, some practice and it was off to the shows where many Supreme Championships in halter and some in Pleasure Driving were won." He was bred to Asgard Arwen Evenstar, Asgard Black Sand & Asgard Golden Sand, all daughters of our senior herd sire, Champion Fairview's Thomas L. Thomas and International Champion Lafayette's Sandy.
What wonderful ponies these crosses produced. From Arwen came four beautiful sisters, Asgard Rhiannon Prydferth, multiple WPCSA Champion & Asgard Heulwen, WPCSA Champion, forming two of his LOM legs and Asgard Brilliant Morningstar, WPCSA Champion, who died just 51 points away from giving both her sire and dam their LOM in 1995, and Grand Champion Asgard Dream Weaver. Black Sand produced Welshaven Sand Storm, WPCSA Champion and Golden Sand produced Grand Champion Asgard Gold Sand both of whom were two more of Squire's LOM legs. With Morningstar's death another Squire child was needed to help Dad. The lovely Section B mare, Supreme Champion Asgard Queen of Hearts, out of Westrum's Bay Beauty, earned Squire's last leg.
Mary Miserak showed "Queenie" and her foal this year just to help Squire win his LOM. Squire's children and grandchildren have excelled in halter, and all areas of performance, from North American Tandem Champions to AHSA Hunter pony champions. In 1994 Asgard Farm took 3 ponies to the American National, entered 13 classes and took home 13 blues, all with Squire daughters and a granddaughter. The only non imported ponies who won Grand Championships that year were the two Squire daughters Asgard Heulwen and Asgard Brilliant Morningstar both of whom trace back to Volume I & II of the USA Stud book through their dam Asgard Arwen Evenstar.
