*MENAI MY DESIRE
2000 Individual Legion of Merit
*MENAI MY DESIRE (Bengad Whitebeam x Menai Marina), owned by J. D. Orear, Orear Welsh Pony Farm and David and Lisa Conian was foaled in 1994 in Wales. She was imported to Emporia, Kansas, via Canada, later that year. During a trip to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, J. D. spotted this lovely chestnut filly in a paddock at Peter Dagenais’ place in Newmarket, Ontario, among some recently imported Welsh ponies from P. J. Exports. Love at first sight told him this was a "must have" filly!
*Menai My Desire is the first imported mare to win a Legion of Merit either as an individual or as a dam. Her points are almost evenly divided with 984 breeding points and 950 points from performance classes.
In 1996 *Menai My Desire was Supreme Champion of the Tulsa Area Pony Show, Reserve Supreme at the Southeast Welsh Pony Show in Conyers, Georgia and Supreme Champion at the Gulf Coast Spring Show in Houston. During 1996 she was trained and shown by Lisa and David Conian.
In 1998 My Desire won the Princess Diana Memorial Perpetual Cup for the highest scoring imported Welsh Pony or Cob. She was AHSA Pleasure Driving Champion for both 1998 and 1999 and was again Supreme Champion of the Tulsa Area Pony Show. The Conians continued to show Desire in halter and pleasure driving to many championships. During these years she was introduced into a Draft hitch with her full sister, *Menai Madonna. David Conian, Royal Oak Carriages, built the hitch wagon used at the American National Welsh Pony Show in Tulsa, OK, and drove the hitch with Madonna on the right and Desire on the left.
During 2000 *Menai My Desire was Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Champion in Pleasure Driving, American National Welsh Show Champion Section A mare and Reserve Grand Champion Section A Pony. Her latest show challenge has been as a leadline mount for Miss Breanna Nicole Conian — the picture of sheer delight. "Desire" lives in Texas with her beloved Conians and continues her winning ways.
