1998 Sire Legion of Merit

*PENDOCK MASTERPIECE (Solway Master Bronze x Pendock Prudence), owned by Mrs. Reta Rodgers.   Masterpiece was purchased from 1998 AGM  special guest, Miss Rosemary Philipson‑Stow, and imported as a foal by Joe and Gail Morris, Gayfields Welsh Ponies. 

As a young stallion he was named Supreme Champion of the American National Welsh Show by judge Hettie Abeles in a rare trip to the show ring.  He was prepared for the show and shown by the late Jim Cloe for Gayfields.  When he had sired sufficient Sec. B broodmares for the Morris's he was sold to Mrs. Rodgers in Virginia.  There he has sired the 1995 Virginia Pony Breeders Grand Champion yearling filly; the 1996 Virginia Pony Breeders Grand Champion yearling filly; the 1996 Devon Pony Breeding Champion at their 100 year Anniversary Show; the 1996 Upperville Pony Breeding Champion; the 1997 Devon Pony Breeding Reserve Champion and the 1997 Virginia Horse Shows Association Pony Breeding Grand Champion. 

With a total of 4973 points earned by thirty of his offspring, the ponies comprising his five Legion of Merit "legs" were sired while he stood at Gayfields.  Deryni Lolas Prince (1607 points) and Deryni Lolita Mara (560 points) are owned by Lisa and Dave Conian;  Rollingwoods Raphael (689 points) belongs to Cheryl and Andrea Davis;  Rollingwoods Keebie (306 points) belongs to Sierra Bishop; and Gayfields Dylan (321 points) earned all of his points while belonging to Clovercroft Farm.  *Pendock Masterpiece, a beautiful seal brown Sec. B, is particularly valued for his quiet and sweet disposition.  He is truly an outstanding example of Sec. B as well as a producer of Champions.
