ROLLINGWOODS DEUCE’S IMAGE
2004 Individual Award of Excellence

Rollingwoods Deuce’s Image (Smoke Tree Bronze Image X Duntulm’s Two Step) was bred by Mary Alice Williams but began life at Rollingwoods in 1985. Dr. Ruth writes “He and his dam were some of the first ponies purchased to start Rollingwoods. “Mickey” acquired his barn name from his smoky foal color (Like a mouse - hence Mickey) that would later turn black. He was broken to ride and sold as a three-year-old to a family in Louisiana. Ridden and shown by the girls in that family, he returned to Rollingwoods in 1997 when the girls outgrew him because they wanted him to have a good home. Geldings usually don’t stay around a breeding farm and such was the case with Mickey. He was leased to a friend of ours whose tiny daughter showed him in over fences classes. We had many offers to buy him because he was the perfect babysitter as well as a consistent performer and excellent mover, but we had promised his previous owners that we would never sell him. Rich Petersen happened to be the first to approach us about being the next one to lease Mickey for his daughter Ashley. So Mickey moved to Ohio.”
Wendy Petersen picks up the story “Mickey came to Misty Morn Farm after several years of begging and the rest is history. Ashley and Mickey are almost legendary in their continuous wins. They have many national championships and have successfully competed in the “open” world. They are a well-matched pair and it’s obvious, when watching them together, the bond that exists. As one judge said to me, “watching Ashley and Mickey is like watching poetry in motion”. Mickey has rolled into his 20’s now and will have a lighter workload. He loves his life, eating and playing with the youngsters, but having his “own place” is one of his favorite things. The one thing that remains a constant is his love for Ashley, when he sees her coming, his ears perk up and he whinnies to her. That spells love. Thank you to the Wilburns for allowing us to have this wonderful pony."
