ROLLINGWOODS LORNA DOONE LOM/AOE
(*Sleight of Hand LOM,/AOE/OD x Rollingwoods Chips Ahoy LOM)
Joanna came out of a class with one of our first home bred mares, Rollingwoods
Chips Ahoy LOM and announced that she was through showing this mare. Ruth
thinking Joanna was exaggerating (we all know she never does that) took Chips
Ahoy back for the Championship class and declared upon exiting the ring that
this mare was retiring to the broodmare band. This decision would produce
one of our finest mares, Rollingwoods Lorna Doone LOM/AOE.
Lorna began her driving career under the expert tutelage of Ron Schwartz. One day after driving her he discovered the reason that he could not get the weight off of her. She produced her first foal, Rollingwoods Who Doone It, in Ron's barn and surprised us all. After we weaned the foal we sent Lorna back to Ron for further training and then we began to campaign her to her own Individual Legion of Merit.
After achieving this honor Lorna retired to the broodmare bunch, happy and content to be through with showing. Her first foal, Rollingwoods Who Doone It, was winning handily in everything from Western, English, Hunter, and Driving and had in fact earned her Individual LOM and AOE. Her second foal, Rollingwoods Catfish Cookies, was "borrowed" from Terie Mokovsky and winning in the Adult Divisions. Her third foal, Rollingwoods Cookie Thief, was making a name for himself in Driving, Halter, and sometimes Western. It was during this time that we decided to breed Lorna to our own stallion, Rollingwoods Easy As L, and much to our surprise we received Rollingwoods Double Stuff who reminded us of a belted Galloway Cow. It was this foal who earned a Individual Award of Honour in 2005. It was this foal who took care of seven year old Turner Davis to his Reserve Champion in Walk in 2005 as a four year old pony.
Lorna still sits in the broodmare bunch at Rollingwoods Farm but perhaps her biggest attribute is the laid back attitude that she puts on all her foals. Seemingly broke at birth, you will always be safe when on a Lorna Child. It was Lorna that we trusted future rider, Turner Davis, to and she patiently allowed him to ride her, brush her, play up under her and will do that for any child that is fortunate enough to ride her. She is faithful and kind and other than an insatiable appetite for food is a wonderful ambassador for the Welsh breed. Then again, I guess pony and insatiable appetite go hand in hand.
