ROLLLINGWOODS PICTURESQUE

1998 Individual Legion of Merit

ROLLLINGWOODS PICTURESQUE (*Sleight of Hand x Gayfields Mona L) owned by Ruth And Joanna Wilburn and Sally Ross Davis, was foaled in 1989 stamped with the looks, exceptional movement, and quiet temperament that her owners knew would take her far.  The  product of two Legion of Merit winners, she was shown in halter as a youngster, winning a national championship.

At age three, "Que" (as she is called) won a national WPCSA championship in halter.  With Judy Fendley's expert training and Megan McSorley as Junior rider "Que" also won the WPCSA championship in English pleasure and reserve championship in hunter.  The next year "Que" was campaigned all over the country in halter, English pleasure, and the hunter classes.  She and Megan were almost unbeatable and ended the year with national championships in the WPCSA and AHSA in all those divisions.

Near the end of her four year old year, owner Ruth Wilburn recounts we had an offer to lease the mare (she was not for sale at any price) but "Que" had to be in Florida by December 1 for a tryout at the barn of top hunter trainer Christina Schlusemyer.  When the hauler didn't show up by Nov 30, our only option was to take "Que" ourselves.  After working all day we drove 14 hours and pulled up into the posh farm with our dilapidated trailer ‑ dirty and exhausted.   Christina thought we were "country come to town" but her thoughts changed quickly after she watched "Que" move and jump.

Susan Fried began showing and winning with "Que" and they went on to garner the 1994 AHSA National Horse of The Year title in the Small/Medium Green Hunter Pony division. "Que" was then leased to the Means family in Houston, TX.  Realizing that she lacked about 100 breeding points to win an Individual Legion of Merit, we made arrangements to pick "Que" up on our way to the two yearly Houston shows.  Michelle Casperson rode her at these shows and "Que" was high point pony at one show even winning in Western pleasure.  At the spring Houston show this year, Picturesque finished her Legion of Merit requirements (2534 points total) with a flair being named Supreme Champion.
