SEVERN GAMBOL

2004 Sire Legion of Merit
SEVERN GAMBOL (Stadacona Crickieth x Severn Playful) is being awarded his second Legion of Merit - the first being his individual, won in 1996. Gambol was bred by Tiz Benedict of Severn Oaks Farm in Arnold, Maryland and he joins two other ponies with the Severn prefix to get the Sire LOM award – West Wind and Sirocco.
Purchased by Peggy Marshal as a four year old, Gambol was always a quick learner and eager to please. He blossomed under the guidance of trainer Susie Weigand and was shown successfully in Pleasure, Hunter, Driving and in-hand at the Welsh shows. Shown and ridden by Susie and Christie Feoli, he won many championships and high score awards including the WPCSA Tylwyth Pony Farm Western Glow Award in 1993, the Libertyville Saddle Shop Best All Around Award in 1994 and his Individual LOM in 1996.
Besides the Welsh shows, Peggy and Susie took Gambol to Combined Driving events sponsored by the American Driving Society. He competed at Live Oak, Yellow Frame in Southern Pines and Kentucky Horse Park, among others. Although he was always the smallest in size, his movement and huge heart made him an avid competitor and he was always in the ribbons.
Gambol has six ponies contributing to his sire LOM starting with PM Moonshine, foaled in 1995, out of Gyncadno Moonglow. Shiney was followed by PM Sterling, out of Brynmawr Springtide, and PM Everything Nice and PM Legacy, both out of Alliance Spyce. Shiney, Sterling, Nice and Legacy, are all excellent children’s ponies and have won many awards in both performance and on the line.
Two of Gambol’s younger offspring that have contributed to his LOM are William Bowling’s Gameboy out of Gayfields Call Yo’ Mama! and PM Spyderman out of Alliance Spyce. Both have been Supreme Champion Geldings and Gameboy was WPCSA National Junior B Gelding in 2003. Nice, Legacy, Spyderman and Gameboy have also been successfully shown in USEF Hunter Breeder classes with many major wins. Gambol’s offspring have all inherited his correctness, great movement, athletic ability and desire to please.
Most of the in hand showing, preparation and training was done by Gambol’s long time handler, Susie Weigand, who has done a tremendous amount over the years to make this achievement possible.
Severn Gambol is still young and hopefully, has plenty of years to continue his legacy of siring good children’s ponies and to be King of the Hill at home.
