2007 ORDER OF THE DRAGON
A-26631 SEVERN SIROCCO LOM/AOE/OD
(Severn West Wind LOM x Severn Holly)
Dr. Ruth
Wilburn of Rollingwoods writes: "Bred by Tiz Benedict of Severn Farm,
Severn Sirocco LOM/AOE/OD
was by Severn West Wind LOM and out of Severn
Holly. The true test of a stallion lies not in his disposition, nor in
his performance record but rather in his offspring. Severn Sirocco has had
a tremendous impact on Rollingwoods Farm and we are forever in his debt.
As a performance animal "Rocky" was unsurpassed in the driving arena. He
was truly a sight to behold when he extended the trot floating as if on air.
Picture after picture showed all four feet off the ground. His disposition
was unbelievable and he completely sold us as well as the many people who
encountered him on the Welsh pony.
As a breeding stallion, Rocky was very prepotent but did not produce that many foals. His Order of the Dragon was earned by three outstanding daughters who earned LOM’s as well as their AOE’s. When bred to CC Serenade LOM, he produced Rollingwoods Classic Rock who earned year end awards in halter, driving, leading rein, child’s first pony, and even won in short stirrup hunter. Another notable offspring of Rocky’s was Ozark Let’s Rock (out of Alra Jasmine) who dominated the Welsh driving ring but also won in leading rein and child’s first pony. An accident and/or twist of fate produced Rollingwoods Who Doone It out of the incomparable Rollingwoods Lorna Doone OD/AOE/LOM. Doone It is truly the versatile Welsh pony and has excelled in every discipline from driving to Western. He produced Rollingwoods Rockateer (also out of CC Serenade LOM) who was an individual Legion of Merit winner and is herd stallion for Tracy and Larry Henderson.
Rocky also has made an impact on the hunter world through several notable half-Welsh offspring. When you break a Rocky child, it is like breaking something that already knows what to do. I don’t know if he told his foals what would happen to them later, but Rocky children take to training like nobody’s business. As a true testament to Rocky’s legacy, Turner Davis has never ridden anything but a Rocky child because if they can train Turner than they are worth their weight in gold. Unfortunately, Rocky’s life was cut short in a freak accident but his legacy lives on at Rollingwoods. We have retained several daughters of his and one son and count ourselves very lucky to have shared our lives with this special pony."
