SILK STOCKINGS AOH
(GTF Master Mark x White Star Satin)

Brenda Heberling writes...Silk Stockings AOH was born on our farm one Saturday morning in 1994 as we were getting ready to leave for a show. Teri was three years old and helped dry the little filly. This precious moment was caught on video. Silk is by GTF Master Mark a small Section A, her dam was a 16 hand Quarter Horse that was a kind and wonderful mare. It was reported that she was un-breedable. After one exposure to Mark she produced Silk Stockings. Silk grew up a happy girl with Teri not very far away. When it came time to be trained, well, training was just not needed. We got on and rode! Teri began riding Silk when Silk was a four year old and they have been inseparable ever since. Teri was 8 and Silk was 6 when Teri was diagnosed with brain cancer. During the times between surgeries when Teri was undergoing multiple seizures, Silk was the only pony Teri would ride. Silk would brace herself by taking a wider stance while traveling and smooth out her gaits when Teri went through a seizure. When Teri would go down, she would stop and wait patiently for her to mount back up. Upon returning home from her surgeries, Silk was turned loose in the yard. Teri’s window was opened and Silk stood for hours on end with her head in Teri’s bedroom. These two had formed such a bond that Silk chose to stand with Teri rather than go to the barn to eat. During Teri’s recoveries, mom would come home each day to find Teri trying on her helmet. When the helmet would go onto her head, she would beam and say, "its time to ride" and she would be off on Silk. Silk did not start out being a show horse, but has proven to be an exceptional individual both at home and in the show ring. After winning several years of WPCSA awards in English and Western, Teri decided to see how she would do in driving. As Brenda worked with Silk a few times in harness then hitched, the third time hitched was at a show. Another competitor, Dwight Hester, asked if it was craziness or confidence – driving her in a show after only being hitched twice – the reply was "Both".
