2007 SIRE ORDER OF THE DRAGON
B-28530 *SLEIGHT OF HAND LOM/AOE/OD
(Mylncroft Spun Gold x Coed Coch Olwen)
Mrs. Thomson writes: "*Sleight
of Hand LOM/AOE/OD
may have had the greatest influence on the Welsh breed in America during the
past two decades. He has sired over 200 purebred foals. He
holds the record for being Supreme Champion of the American Nationals more times
than any other animal. His foals and their foals have grown up to be
winners in the USEF Hunter world, in the Combined Driving World, and also in the
WPCSA world.
He has been Sire of the Year every year one has been named by the Welsh Pony Society until this year when he was beaten by the famous and beautiful Telynau Royal Charter…and even then, Sleight’s purebred get outscored Charter’s by more than 2000 points! He has won four USEF Welsh Sire of the Year awards.
Sleight’s purebred Welsh sire points are almost four times those of his closest competitor after 21 years of point-keeping by the WPCSA. These points were garnered by ponies that have won many Supreme Championships at tough shows from coast to coast. They have won many Performance Championships at these shows as well. Altogether his 80,101 sire points are split 35,469 won in breeding classes and 44,632 in performance classes in many divisions at some of the largest shows ever held in the United States.
One of his daughters was Supreme and Champion of Champions at the Royal Winter Fair in Canada twice. Another was Supreme but had not been shown in a qualifier for the Champion of Champions class.
His son and daughter Advanced CDE Pair was long-listed for the World Championships in England a few years ago. The spare was his daughter, too.
It has been a privilege for us to own this beautiful and intelligent stallion who has such a gentle and willing nature. He has never needed a chain on his lead shank when showing, breeding or for any other reason. In fact, the one time someone mistakenly put one on him he was wide-eyed and confused. Sleight is twenty-seven this year, showing his age but still fertile and siring foals. It has been a joy to share his prepotency in looks, disposition and athletic ability with so many Welsh Pony lovers and we appreciate that, in turn, these owners and breeders have brought him all these honors."
