*TELYNAU BALLERINA

2004 Individual Legion of Merit

*TELYNAU BALLERINA was introduced to us in a field in Wales when she was just 10 days old. She was in a field full of sheep, Welsh mares, her dam and her sire, Eyarth Rio. We were on a quest for a Sec B colt, but this little muddy footed filly just called out to us. I remember watching this filly and her sweeping trot circle around us with her dam. The mare was coming into her foal heat and Rio was more taken by her than by us visitors. He was happily following both mare and foal around the field. As I was videotaping, mom called out that she had just petted a sheep; a most memorable experience in all. On that particular trip we had chosen Telynau Royal Charter to be our next senior stallion, but that filly hung in our minds. Later that year, I decided we had to have that filly and purchased her for Mom’s birthday gift. Mom was visiting in CA and David Jones/Telynau Stud, called to wish her a Happy Birthday and let her know she was the proud new owner of a Rio filly. Of course I had to tell mom that I purchased her, but she had to get her home!

Fast forward to April, 2004; after several very successful show seasons on the west coast, Ballerina was expecting her own little gift. She had been bred to Charter and on the morning of our first Welsh show of the year, Ballerina presented us with a lovely chestnut colt named Farmore Fancy Footwork. She raised and weaned him and back in the show ring she went. At the American National show in September, she was Champion B Mare, winner of all three of her junior English Pleasure classes and her junior trail class.  As I was trying to total her LOM points on a napkin at the back gate, we decided to play it safe and enter her in the short stirrup division. She had to go in the ring and jump a course, which she gladly did, even though I was worried she would not jump, never having been trained in that discipline. But go around she did and then off to win the under saddle class for a grand total of 1517 points  - enough to receive her Legion of Merit.

So this lovely little muddy footed filly came to the USA in December of 2000 and showed the west coast what she was made of. She was jockeyed around by MANY riders, winning nearly every time, was bred, had a foal, and then received her LOM in September of 2004! They don’t make a Welsh Pony much better than this! We are so very proud of our Ballerina!
